Poney Club: Paris night is dead, viva Paris night!
Few weeks ago, I took my butt and my camera to the Poney Club
expecting to find the craziness I truly miss from New York nightlife and parties.
What is the Poney Club?
If I had to summarize what the Poney
Club is I would say very briefly that it is “The” alternative invented by Le
Mont C, a group of young and dynamic party promoters, to the boring and allegedly
high-end Parisian nightclubs.
If you are from Paris or if you are a connaisseur of the Paris nightlife, I am pretty sure that you know
what clubs are on my mind when I refer to these welcoming doors for a pseudo elite.
The Poney Club is the opposite. You don’t need to be the son
of. You don’t need to wear ostensibly like you don’t care expensive clothes
that look rotten. You don’t need to know the bouncer and suck his balls when he
pretty much talks to you like you are a whore or a piece of shit.
No, definitely, all these things are exactly what the Poney
Club is not.
The Poney Club is a joyful mess where you can just allow
yourself to be yourself and chill or party, even if your bank account is not
fully loaded (a drink will cost you around 4 or 5 euros), even if you don’t
belong to the Parisian supposedly arty world.
At the door, just smile and be ready to party. Pretty
simple.
Because the Poney Club is what is, a few night promoters are
trying to shut it down. And this really pisses me of. Why those dudes who don’t
want you in their clubs don’t want others to welcome you. You will not be their guests anyway.
This “who’s
got the biggest one” fight is just pretty stupid. There is room for everybody
and for all tastes.
So dear reader, if you belong to those who are sick of this
Parisian party elitism, sustain the Poney Club to revive the Paris nightlife.
With the Poney Club, viva Paris night!

Godot, we are still waiting...
“Let us do something, while we have the chance! It is not every day that we are needed. Not indeed that we personally are needed. Others would meet the case equally well, if not better. To all mankind they were addressed, those cries for help still ringing in our ears! But at this place, at this moment of time, all mankind is us, whether we like it or not. Let us make the most of it, before it is too late! Let us represent worthily for one the foul brood to which a cruel fate consigned us! What do you say? It is true that when with folded arms we weigh the pros and cons we are no less a credit to our species. The tiger bounds to the help of his congeners without the least reflexion, or else he slinks away into the depths of the thickets. But that is not the question. What are we doing here, that is the question. And we are blessed in this, that we happen to know the answer. Yes, in the immense confusion one thing alone is clear. We are waiting for Godot to come.”

Banksy and Damien Hirst: a 2-in-1 shampoo?

Are Banksy and Damien Hirst a 2-in-1 shampoo? This weird question has been haunting me for
weeks and, to tell you the truth as crazy and pointless as it may be, it still
is as I am writing this post.
When did the craziness strike me? Well, I guess you can thank Dokoupil and the
German magazine 032C*. Weeks ago I read
an interview of this artist named Dokoupil.
Asked by the journalist who his favorite artist of the present was, he
answered Damien Hirst whom he says that he “also
runs a successful sub-label as Banksy.”**
Wait a minute.
What did I just read? Was this
guy serious? No. He couldn’t be.
A few questions later, asked whether he was
convinced that Hirst is Banksy, he replied “Absolutely. Someone that I have known for decades and
whom I trust one hundred percent, someone who really must know told me that
Banksy is Hirst invention. It would also
explain why Banksy has kept his identity a secret until now (…).”***
Obviously, he was.
Probably like many others before me, I have always
thought that Banksy never revealed his identity to avoid prosecution. Indeed, despite the beauty of his art, Banksy
remains for the rigid right-minded people a criminal.
So, if not for this article, Dokoupil’s theory
would have never crossed my mind. But
the more I reflected on it the more I started to wonder why not after all. Both Banksy and Hirst are from Bristol, which
is a strange geographical coincidence, and both are almost the same age (yes, the
same age; 47 and 38 are almost the same age).
Nah. Those
are very meager coincidences. It doesn’t
make sense, does it?
At that point of my divagation, something however
was trotting in the back of my sick mind. This something was nothing less than Banksy’ s
movie “Exit through the gift shop”.
In this movie, Mr. Brainwash (undoubtedly Banksy’s
creation and maybe Hirst’s too if Dokoupil is right) compares himself to Hirst.
Don’t you find this reference intriguing?
I do to the extent where I am really wondering
right now if in the end I am not being brainwashed by the the Banksy-Hirst
2-in-1 shampoo!
